Our hearts are so full.
The sweetest, cuddliest, softest, more adorable little bear was placed into our arms early Saturday morning outside a Tim Hortons an hour north of Edmonton.
Kris held it together
I did not.
Bernoulli is a Bernese Mountain Dog, named after the famous Swiss mathematician and scientist whose discoveries in fluid dynamics lead to the principles of lift.
As I held that warm, soft, huge puppy, the hope and promise of years of joy were too much and I broke down for a second. I remember the joy of baby Bunsen and how dark my mental health was before he pulled me from grief.
Only for a second though, and not all tears are an evil as Gandalf would say.
We were quickly on our way home and the little bear snuggled into Kris for nearly the entire 3.5 hour drive.
Bunsen and Beaker are slowly warming up to the little guy, with Bunsen being much more warm to him. Beaker is still skeptical, but she hangs with him, sleeping next to him not unlike her early relationship with Ginger.
I don’t think we can expect the same kind of playful Bunsen with Bernoulli - Bunsen is four years older than his time with baby Beaker and enjoys his sleep - but where he is shining is letting Bernoulli follow him around, with Bunsen ever the watchful eye on the small fry. I expect their relationship to be more older mentor and protege rather than a playful friend.
Beaker is a COVID puppy and doesn’t make dog friends easily, but she is accepting Bernoulli so far! We already have Bernie registered for puppy play next week - so even if Bunsen and Beaker aren’t going to mix it up with Bernoulli we will make sure he has some friends!
Bernoulli is 8 weeks old with absolutely massive paws. We are trying to think back to baby Bunsen and if his paws were ever this big - it’s a tough call. We don’t know!
Only a couple weeks left of school and then the whole summer is PUPPY TIME!
(don’t worry we are making time for each dog and even the cat!)
The Science Pawdcast!
Dr. April Abbott is our guest and Kris and I break down two really interesting studies - one is a silly one about running sideways on the moon, and the other is more serious, bone cancer in dogs!
You can listen to The Science Pawdcast anywhere podcasts can be found!
