I cried reading this. I have had cats my whole life and every time one has become ill my heart goes to pieces. I understand what this must be doing to you. Sending hugs to you both from Winnipeg and keeping you in my thoughts during this difficult time.

Brix has found his way into my heart in a big way. All the dogs have chose Kris as their person. Brix chose me and it's not something I take lightly.

Sorry from the intrusion, but is this JanfromSeattle? There aren't many Jan Wades out there!

No, I’m from Michigan.

You and Brie have such a wonderful friendship that makes me so happy. You could tell it from the beginning. Brie is such a unique cat….he has a lot of dog in him. When you put up the cat wall for him, I knew he was special to you. I will keep praying for all of you. ❤️

I'm so happy that you have him, and he's been creeping into mine as well - I was really upset about this yesterday. Keeping fingers crossed for you, Kris, and Brixy.

Thank heavens for the new FIP treatment. And I'm so grateful so many vets have chosen to be cardiologists, they've saved several of my cats their oncologists or internal med people could not fully treat for. I'm also grateful you're a scientist, and know the importance of continued testing, and how hard it was to almost be guessing which option to take, asthma or pneumonia! I had that choice once, went with asthma and was able to treat my Scout, but she was 21 so a very different bargain, to lose a baby like Brix is horrible, almost unimaginable. I unexpectedly lost my 5 year old Stevie in January, and I'm still in a black place whenever I walk by his favorite spots and for that split second my brain wonders if I'll see him. You and Brix are in my thoughts, and I'm sending all the positive energy I have.

I'm a bit amazed by how emotionally invested I am about a cat in Canada. Thank you for the updates (and pupdates)

Sounds pretty similar to my cat’s FIP. Glad you’re already on it. My cat also did prednisolone to help. We skipped the transfusion they recommended. 90 days of FIP meds and like 30 of prednisolone, he was “cured.” We’re 30 days since his last dose today. He was back to his normal self around the 60 day mark. He did test negative for FIP but we know just like any other test, they can be wrong. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 and well wishes

Thank you so much for sharing Brix's journey with us. You owe us strangers absolutely nothing and these updates have to be very taxing on you, but we very much appreciate it. Brix is such a special boy - apparently in more way than one!! His spunk is serving him well as he continues to fight ♥️ I hope the FIP treatment continues to improve his condition and soon they can start trying to ween him off the oxygen. But one step at a time and we are celebrating every little win that you share with us.

I also want to thank you for sharing because chances are very high that through sharing this nightmare, you have helped another kitty somewhere. Whether it be that something in the comments clicked with another cat parent or the education you are giving us all, the kind you hope to never use, could save another cat's life because someone was aware of early signs because you shared.

I feel so ridiculous to be sitting here crying about a cat I don't even know. I am admittedly a bleeding heart when it comes to animals anyway, but there's something about Brix that is different. We are all collectively holding our breath for you all and hoping for more adventure videos of Brix in his backpack and hat!

I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed for Brix! FIP is something I wasn’t familiar with, so I went and looked it up. I am grateful for the scientific research that has changed the way so many diseases now have treatment that was previously unavailable, including FIP. I’m an RN, and looking at the data it certainly seems Brix has some of the symptoms to me, so I’m hoping that the treatment helps him. He’s such a special little guy, we’re all pulling for him.

You may be interested then to find that oral specialists have begun to use FIP medication quite effectively on chronic, intractable stomatitis in cats! Research for the Covid vaccine sped all this up, and cat FIP research helped the Covid researchers prior to that!

Thank you for sharing this timeline. Watching Brix with your family has been a joy. Watching him suffer this past week has been terrible. I know it has been so munch worse for you and Kris. I hope the new treatment has Brix back to full health soon. Sending hugs to all of you.

I'm so thankful Brix is at least maintaining right now. Your story breaks my heart as we lost our 1.5 year old kitty this February to a hypertrophic cardiomyopathy/congestive heart failure. I'm so happy to hear you were able to start the FIP treatment for him just in case. I'm glad they're also considering heart related issues. An echocardiogram can be done to assess disease signs that may be missed on X-ray or not shown in blood work. I'm pulling for ya Brixie, we all are.

All that matters is that Brix responds and recovers. The World Cup doesn't matter, the news and weather don't matter. You hear me, Brixie? All energy, hope, and love are for you to be healthy so your Dad can snuggle with you ❤️ Across the globe, you are loved more than you know ❤️ 🙏
