Hi all! Sorry about the lack of pupdate last week, but we were travelling!
Kris and I last year made the decision to experience the eclipse and so I planned a place to go to watch it. We decided on Dallas for a couple reasons, the biggest of which the flights were 50% cheaper than anywhere else. HA!
Luckily, despite the clouds that rolled in on eclipse day, along with rain, we found clear sky in Sulphur Springs, which is about an hour and half east of Dallas and the experience was magical.
I’ve been told that you really don’t GET a total eclipse until you experience it and I think that is really true.
As the moon slowly covered up the sun the crowd of hundreds around us began to get more and more excited and then when totality hit it was bananas. Cheers, cries and such, but for me it was sound without sound. Obviously the world made no sound as were plunged into dusk, but I FELT something. Our star became an eyeball of fire in the sky and I couldn’t stop staring at it. Stars and planets were visible and the animal life around us became so very quiet.
For 4 and a half minutes the sun and moon did something that is so very rare the next time it will happen will be in 2044 in North America.
On top of this, Kris and I got to watch The Skeptics Guide to the Universe’s Live Show - they are a group of podcasters that GOT me into loving podcasts and making my own. We also got to meet one of our friends - Donna Craig who lives in Dallas and she was so kind to take us out to supper and show us the sights. She’s a gem!
On our return all of the animals were super happy to see us and the weather has been hot and dry. The snow is nearly gone and Norbert (the beaver) has been working to repair damage to their dams from the run off.
Today was Beaker’s fourth birthday and we had a little celebration for her which was sweet. I also put to audio the story of Beaker, which you can find here:
Finally, if you love our silly stuff, we have a PRESALE on right now for Rolling Bone - which is the fake magazine we wrote. Each magazine comes with our two new songs by Beaker’s Band - Vultures of Parliament. There are also larger bundles which come with band shirts and more. We would love your support on this!

Dadguy, that was a wonderful essay about Beaker on this, her 4th birthday. You are such an expressive and articulate writer, and we are grateful for your and Mommyfav's presence on X. Have a good week! Elaine
