Hi Everyone! We hope you are all happy and healthy out there!
The last week before school starts up again for Kris and I is always a bit weird.
Family gatherings are over, and we have a few days to reflect before our day jobs get back in full swing.
I find these quiet days the most enjoyable of the holidays, as I’m not one for big celebrations. I like the slow pace of lazy mornings with the dogs, extended treks through the snow, and planning content for the year.
Let’s talk about some of the good!
We are getting a Bernoulli stuffie prototyped right now and if it has a good response to fund it, we will likely have it ready to ship by end of summer. It’s always scary to embark on a new stuffie because the process is so long and we don’t really know what it will look like months from the time we start. The stuffie will be the same size as the Beaker stuffie to keep costs down (inflation affects everything) and we a doing a distinctly puppy/gooberish stuffie. We don’t have any pictures yet, but as the come in through the design process, we will be excited to share them.
Another fun item we are making, one that has been requested many times, is a coloring book! It will have a mix of pictures of the dogs and Ginger, both real and our cartoon ones! Look for that end of February!
The other good news is we did a survey and found that the type of content people like the best, if they had to choose, was our fun facts with Bernoulli posts! Yay! That’s great because it’s science communication! We will continue to dish out the fun facts, science education, and joyful content in 2025.
Ok, some not as good news. Early in December we noticed Bunsen was slipping on our tile floor and hardwood floor quite a bit. You might notice that he isn’t in a ton of video - his walking gait would really stress people out and we don’t want that to happen.
It kind of happened all of sudden where he went from completely fine to taking very tentative steps everywhere, tippy tapping. If he gets excited he can actually just flomp onto the floor as he goes to move forward and doesn’t. We have put a couple big rugs down which really help, and we will be putting some other runner rugs down, and of course we have taken him to the vet. The Vet suspects arthritis, and we have Bunsen on a couple different med types, but in all honesty, they aren’t helping much. The next plan is to have an X-Ray to pinpoint how bad his arthritis is and we may get that done on Friday. Don’t worry, Bunsen isn’t in any pain and is doing just fine outside on short walks. He is still extremely happy and cuddly! He still wants to take part in walks and videos very much
!
The big guy has had a bit of a rough end of 2024 and we are hopeful we get some treatment plans for him. He is almost 8, and considered old for a Bernese Mountain Dog, so his arthritis may be just something that we help him live with and adjust to.
We spoke during Pet Chat that Bernoulli has aged out of being able to go to Waggles and Day Care until he is neutered, and the current research is to wait until Berners are 2. Both my own research and our Vet have the same advise. 2 Years is a LONG time to wait, with Bernoulli not being around his friends and getting socialization, BUT we found a compromise. We have no interest in having little Bernoulli Goober babies and Waggles has agreed to trial Bernoulli having a vasectomy. He can’t impregnate any other dogs, but his body will still release the hormones needed for growth. Waggles will just watch him closely to see if he has any inappropriate behaviours OR if the dogs have inappropriate behaviours with him, but it is a solution. He is currently not showing any of those behaviours, and they love him there, so we are hopeful it will work. We are going to be speaking to the vet about that when Bunsen goes in on Friday.
Ginger is doing great! Ha! Almost forgot about her!

Keeping Bunsen Big Bear in my prayers for some relief to his arthritis. It’s sad to hear of him aging and I do miss him seeing him in your posts. 😟🥲
Have you tried hemp oil for Bunsen? I saw this on a website. I’ve used hemp cream for me and it does help.

There is another company I use for Trixie called Elle Vet in Maine. Www.goellevet.com They make a superior hemp oil product that my vet recommend. Not sure if they ship to Canada tho. If they don’t lmk. Maybe I can help. 🤞❤️🥰
ask the vet on Friday.
Hugs to u all. Love you Bunsen. 🥰❤️
